Characteristics

Miyazaki Beef has fine marbling, with a subtle sweetness that spreads through the mouth and a rich aroma. The region-wide effort to produce high-quality beef cattle has been highly regarded: it won the overall championship at the 9th (2007) and 10th (2012) National Wagyu Competitions, and at the 11th competition (2017) it also received the Prime Minister's Award in the beef cattle category.

Link with the production area

Miyazaki Prefecture was long active in producing beef calves, and in 1959 it also began promoting the fattening of beef cattle, for example by establishing feeding standards for fattening cattle. The prefecture also worked to improve its own breeding bulls, and in 1973 it became the first in Japan to set up a centralized management system for the prefecture's breeding bulls, known as the Miyazaki method.
